Project Abstract

1-arylamino-2-mercapto imidazole derivatives containing different substituents will be
synthesized and the inhibitor effects of these compounds on the corrosion of low carbon steel in
hydrochloric acid solution will be investigated by electrochemically (electrochemical impedance
spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization), spectroscopically (ATR-FTIR) and
microscopically (SEM).
Quantum chemical calculations will be performed in order to bring out the relationship between
the inhibitor efficiencies and the molecular structure of the synthesized compounds, and the
experimental results will be clarified.
