In this study, the effects of the
use of chemical additives and corrosion inhibitors on the durability of the
concrete and the corrosion of the reinforcement in the concrete were
experimentally investigated. In this context, the effects of inhibitors used to
prevent corrosion were investigated and the effect of boron inhibitor in
preventing corrosion was revealed. The inhibitor produced from natural boron
was used instead of concrete additives known for its toxic and chemical
effects. In the study, reinforced concrete samples were produced with concrete
mixtures prepared with four different chemical additives and two different
corrosion inhibitors. The chemical additives used are set accelerator, set
retarder, super plasticizer, hyper plasticizer. Corrosion inhibitors are calcium
nitrite-based corrosion inhibitör and inhibitor obtained from natural boron. It
has been observed that the use of corrosion inhibitors improves the durability
properties of concrete. It has been understood that the concrete properties
when used together with chemical additives and corrosion inhibitors give much
better results than when these additives are used alone. Among all series, the concrete
sample containing boron and hyper plasticizer provided significant corrosion
protection by reducing the initial corrosion current by 56.2%. Moreover, the
latest damage occurrence time was found as samples contained boron inhibitors
with 361 hours as a result of the accelerated corrosion tests.
