Abstract

Merrakusi was a man of letter and a historian from Maghreb. He was born in the late twelfth century in Marrakesh, where he spent the first thirty-two years of his life. His life in Maghreb was largely spent in Marrakesh, Morocco, and the cities of Andalus, Cordoba and Isbiliyye, what is now Sevilla. He decided to go to the East and lived in Egypt, the Hejaz region and probably in Baghdad and Damascus. It was during his stay in the East, thousands of kilometres from home that Merrakusi wrote his historical work upon the request of one of the Abbasid viziers.
