Özet

The initial examination of any patient presenting with symptoms affecting the ear, nose, and throat region should involve assessing the throat and evaluating the tonsillar area. Any abnormalities observed within this region may provide important clues about the underlying diagnosis. Noting the size, shape, color, degree of asymmetry, and any surface formations on the tonsils is of great assistance to the clinician in shaping the differential diagnosis. The volume of the tonsils and adenoids may vary between different individuals, as well as differing with advancing age in any particular individual [1]. On occasion it may be difficult to differentiate between tonsillar hypertrophy of a physiological versus a pathological kind, and confusion in this matter can therefore lead to inappropriate treatment.
