SANAT TARIHI DERGISI-JOURNAL OF ART HISTORY, cilt.31, sa.1, 2022 (ESCI)
By examining the research problem of whether the industrial heritage structure, whose original function has been terminated (discontinued) can be adapted to a changing spatial program and organization, the adaptive reuse of the remained inactive industrial heritage shell as a cultural place has been examined within the scope of the original project and restoration project of the building, in particular, Sakarya Art Gallery. In the restoration process, within the scope of the new possible function of the building, the interventions in the "shell" structure and the characteristics of the spatial transformations are the main subject of the discussion. First of all, the place of the sample in the historical development and its original use, the recovery process after abandonment and its temporary uses, the refunctionalization process and its current uses were explained. Subsequent, via the "SWOT" analysis, the functioning processes of the industrial heritage buildings were analyzed in a general framework, and based on this analysis, the original and current architectural project data of the selected building were examined by the method of "comparative study".
