Özet

Objective: This study aimed to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool for the determination of fears of nurses and nursing interventions in children. Methods: The universe of the research consisted of children in a primary school located in the center of Eskisehir and child patients of the Eskisehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. All of the students studying at the school were contacted and 1012 students were reached. Four hundred twenty-two children who were hospitalized between April and July were also included in the study. The total sample size was 1434, and five - to ten-year-old children were included. The data collection tools included the "Personal Information Form" and "The Scale Development of Fear in Children Against Nursing Interventions and Used Materials".Results: In the evaluation of the data, content analysis, explanatory factor analysis, item analysis and Cronbach's alpha coefficient were used. The correlation coefficients of the fear scale against nursing interventions and the materials used were between 0.39 and 0.79. The Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin value of the scale was 0.92. Two sub-dimensions formed after the exploratory factor analysis explained 65.97% of the total variance. The items collected under each sub-dimension were examined in terms of content and the sub-dimensions were named. The first sub-dimension of the scale was named as "fear against common materials" and the second sub-dimension was named as "fear against uncommon materials". The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.94.Conclusion: The fear scale against nursing interventions may be a valid and reliable tool to evaluate fears related to nursing among hospitalized children.
