Özet

The study explores the role of TUSIAD, which is one of the most influential pressure groups in Turkey, on the Central Bank (CB) to become an independent institution. The reports published by TUSIAD between 1980-2000 were chosen as the analysis material. Statements about CB independence in these reports were analyzed by the critical discourse analysis (CDA) method. The findings show that TUSIAD defends and supports CB's independence by justifying its compliance with the neoliberal system, integration with western developed countries, political instabilities, and price stability. Consequently, it has been evaluated that the demands for the independence of the CB stem from the requirements of the neoliberal project, which is the legitimization of globalization.
