Current research into cardiovascular disease in Turkey can be characterized by a limited activity in basic science vs. the expertise and enthusiasm of a committed group of professionals. Knowledge built up by the cardiology and scientific community over the previous four or five decades, is now bearing fruit in increased output. Bulent Gorenek, Professor of Cardiology at the Eskis, ehir Osmangazi University School of Medicine in Eskis, ehir, Central Turkey, talks to Judy Ozkan about the state of play in his field of research.
