Since people move to urban life, they continue their lives in society. Urban spaces
are places that allow people to share together in society. As long as it changes with
people, it will also change itself and its environment. For this reason, it is inevitable
that the urban space will change. Urban spaces change and transform over time and
maintain their existence thanks to individual memory or collective memory. Memory
is about recording, storing and retrieving. Individual memory is a person's
acquisitions as a result of experiences he/she acquires alone. Collective memory is
formed as a result of the common shares of the society. For this reason, there is a
transformational relationship between urban space and collective memory. Since city
people exist together, the city also has a memory. Places that represent the city
memory are important for the citizens to feel like they belong to the city. For this
reason, the protection of these places is important for the city and urban memory.
However, due to natural disasters and human impacts that occur over time, it is
impossible for these structures to continue their physical existence. For this reason,
digital technologies are gaining importance in transferring and preserving the
historical data of cities to the future. Digital technologies are in rapid change and
development thanks to the innovations brought by the age. For this reason, within the
scope of the study, a method has been developed to reconstruct the past period with
digital technologies. The developed method is applicable and transformable for
many cities. This study was produced from a doctoral thesis.
