Bone metastases are the most common cause of cancer pain, and up to two-thirds of patients with bone metastases will suffer severe pain. Given the complexity of the treatment decisions, multidisciplinary evaluation is usually necessary to decide the optimal approach to patients with bone metastases. Treatment recommendations must be individualized to each patient's specific symptoms, clinical presentation, histologic tumor type, performance status, and patient's goals and preferences.
