Congenital cysts of the larynx are an unusual cause of airway obstruction in newborns. The saccule is a diverticulum located in the superior part of the laryngeal ventricle roof, lying between the ventricular band and thyroid cartilage. A saccular cyst occurs when the orifice of the submucosal glands in this region becomes blocked with congenital or acquired causes. According to lacolization they are named as lateral or anterior saccular cysts. In respect of their size and localization symptoms like tachypnea, slight crying, difficultness in eating and findings like stridor, supraclavicular and retrosternal retractions can be seen. Laryngeal endoscopic examination and computerized tomography are helpful for diagnosis. Drainage of cyst, marsupialization, endoscopic diathermia or exicision with external approach are recommended for treatment. Herein we present a case of saccular cyst in a 7 day newborn.
