Abstract

Pepper is a one of most commonly consumed and economically important vegetable crop in the world. After China and Mexico, Turkey is the third biggest pepper producing country in the world. For that reason, it is important to develop new marketable cultivars by breeding programs. In vitro androgenesis methods are significant in plant breeding and they have been used effectively in rapid production of completely homozygous doubled haploid lines. In vitro production of haploids by androgenesis can be carried out using either anther cultures or isolated microspore cultures. In Turkey, the anther culture method is the most preferred and widely used method for obtaining haploid pepper plants.
