With the emergence of agricultural societies, nomadic life has left its place to settled life. On
the other hand, it is seen that a continuous migration movement due to economic, social, health or
political reasons continues in human history. In its most general definition, migration is displacements
that have a significant impact. According to this definition, migration should be based on distance and
time.
The phenomenon of migration is triggered by a better life condition and desire for a better
place. Therefore, in mass movements such as immigration, space is one of the dominant concepts to be
discussed and emphasized. At this point, emergency architecture, which deals with the disadvantaged
groups' accommodation and regular life, comes to the fore.
Containers are currently used for many different purposes, such as construction sites and
natural disasters. Although it is not widespread to use as a direct residence, containers are frequently
preferred in the construction of exhibition halls, offices, studios and art workshops. The low cost,
sustainability and durability of containers have made containers an important element in architectural
design in recent years.
In this study, the masses that have been displaced as a result of migration and diverging from
existing comfort areas have been taken into consideration and it has been aimed to examine the use of
containers in emergency architecture from positive / negative aspects. In line with the purpose, the
technical properties of the container, its application areas, various examples from the world and
possible application potentials are shared. A situation that requires a state of emergency for societies
and countries, such as migration, should be handled in detail and investigated in every respect. To the
phenomenon of immigration; economics, sociology, psychology, international relations, political
science, geography, history and other related fields of study are obliged to take an approach from their
own perspective. With this work, architecture and design are considered as a tool that touches human
life. In the study, it is planned to examine the container and create an advantage / disadvantage
inventory within the framework of architectural design. In addition, it is considered that the study will
constitute a basis for emergency response decisions and will contribute to the widespread use of
containers.
