Özet

One of the main challenges of school geography is to “be boring” subject for the students. On the other hand, school geography has some geographical skills which aimed to achieve by students. But geographical skills cannot be taught only inside of the classrooms. Many times, it is needed to go to field work and observation on the nature. This kind of organization is not easy for many times for teachers and students. On the other hand, in this pandemic term of the world may causes to less opportunities for out of learning in geographical education. Geographical skills to the ability to think at a higher level with extracurricular learning environments. For this reason, it is important that games defined as GeoGame are distributed and given in the correct learning environment during the epidemic we are in. As a helpful viewpoint of this problem, we argue that GeoGames can be used to teach and develop some geographical skills in school geography. Thus, the purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of interactive games, known as GeoGames, for geographical skills. During the research process, Games defined as GeoGame have been investigated to what extent they can acquisition geographical skills. Data collected by document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods, has been analyzed in depth within the framework of both the social studies course curriculum and GeoGame games in the context of Turkey. The game is not only an entertainment tool, but also has the capacity to create a learning environment for geographical education in schools. When the right game is combined with the right learning environment, an optimum learning environment can be created that children learn while having fun. As with other disciplines in geography education, where extracurricular activities need to be intensively applied, play is a learning tool. Today's pandemic conditions have brought students closer to the interactive education model. Although circumventing this process for other courses is like moving classroom conditions into an online education environment, this situation is in a different dimension for the geography lessons.
