" The lullaby" that is not generally placed as a type in itself in classifications about kinds of folk literature is reviewed under the "ballad" contains many anonym poems in terms of subject, melody and shape characteristics. Every lullaby has a subject, melody and external structure factors although not to mention about a determination and become stereotyping about these factors is the reason for this consideration. It is not possible to think the lullaby without melody and woman in general, mother in private as well. In other words, the factors transform the lullaby is a type in itself are expression style of woman, subjects she preferred and melody besides singing places of the lullaby. It is possible to see the reflections of social gender roles of women for determining the shape characteristics, performing, melody and subject of lullaby inasmuch as the woman is one of the keystones of social structure. By this way, there could be expressed an opinion about the role is a.ributed to women by Turkish family and society structure with reference to the lullabies such integrated with it's performing. In this study, on social gender roles of women reflected in Turkish folk lullabies in the light of information obtained from verbal sources were highlighted and lullaby texts compiled from Turkey. In which ways women are pushed and controlled by society in terms of social norms were stated and their gender roles in lullabies within reasonable bounds. In this way, a.racted notice for lullabies are not only the poems for calming the babies and pu.ing them to sleep by their mothers but also verbal literature products provide women to express her feeling to the baby and set an emotional intimacy with him/her as well, strengthen her connection with life. It was briefly stated that the lullabies help women to gain a social identity. Approaching to lullabies by this respect is useful for viewing the changes of women in social life.
