Abstract
Communication between the plastic surgeon and the patient is crucial for a successful cosmetic procedure. Although the surgeon's technical skill, experience, and judgment are critical to the outcome, it won't be satisfying for either if they have different expectations and the surgeon isn't willing to commit to delivering the patient's desired result. Many things must be considered for communication to be effective. The surgeon is responsible for listening to the patient's goals and concerns and being forthright about whether the surgical procedure can achieve them. The patient is also responsible for being forthright and honest about their expectations and goals for cosmetic surgery. Although this is a fine idea in theory, it requires direct eye contact between the surgeon and patient to ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding expectations.
