Abstract

Purpose: All patients with a dNiagnosis of hepatic hemangioma who underwent enucleation between January 2000 and January 2004 were reported. Material and Methods: Demographics, biochemical values, diagnostic studies, lesion characteristics, operative time, blood loss, mortality and morbidity, and outcomes were analyzed. Results: Locations were the right lobe in 10 cases, the left lobe in two and both lobes in two. The size of hemangiomas ranged from eight cm to 13 cm in diameter. There was no mortality, and one morbidity. No recurrence of hemangioma was observed. Conclusion: Although enucleation seems a safe procedure for the treatment of giant liver hemangiomas, and is the preferential technique of the authors, it should always be kept in mind that it is not a simple procedure and blood and blood products may be necessary during the surgery.
