Özet

The Workshop of Habitat organized during the fall semester 2008-2009 by the department of Architecture of Eskisehir Osmangazi University focused on the issue of "urban congestion". The congestion was discussed in terms of different habitats, physically or conceptually such as the congestion of religious and daily in the case of Mecca, the congestion of historical and daily in the case of Athens, the congestion caused by water in the case of Tuvalu and the congestion of local and universal in the case of Shanghai. During the workshop, in order to discover and determine the problems of different habitats on the world Google Earth program was used. The developing computer technologies and programs offer different openings by changing the familiar concepts in our entire life. The perception of the physical environment, namely "place" starts to be the subject of a certain shift in its frame from "the form of creating a physical contact such as being there and observing" to "experience without going and seeing there". The "Google Earth" which enables every place on earth to be open for access and discovery, also became an important tool in the architectural education.
