Introduct"on / Purpose: In ch5ldren, strab5smus surgery performed under general anesthes5a. In recent years, reg5onal approaches such as per5bulbar and sub-Tenon’s blocks have been begun to 5ntroduce 5nto rout5ne pract5ce. However, trad5t5onal hab5ts are the most 5mportant factors l5m5t5ng the w5despread use of 5nc5s5onless sub-Tenon’s block 5n ch5ldren. Here, we a5med to present our 5n5t5al exper5ence of the 5nc5s5onless sub-Tenon’s block 5n ped5atr5c strab5smus surgery. Mater"als and Methods: F5fteen ch5ldren who underwent strab5smus surgery under 5nc5s5onless sub-Tenon’s block were 5ncluded 5n the study.After general anesthes5a v5a larnygeal mask a5rway, ultrasonography-gu5ded 5nc5s5onless sub-Tenon’s block was performed as follows: The conjunct5va and Tenon were grasped and punctured w5th forceps 5-8 mm away from the l5mbus.( 5nferonasal area 5n lateral rectus/ 5nferolateral area 5n med5al rectus). A m5xture (1:1) of 0.5% marca5ne (0.02-0.05 mg/kg) and 2% l5doca5ne at su5table volume (0.080.1 mL/kg) was appl5ed to the sub-Tenon’s space. Hemodynamycal parameters, the 5nc5dence of oculocard5ac reflex (OCR) and emergence ag5tat5on (EA), and need of op5o5d dur5ng anesthes5a were recorded. Results: There were 8 g5rls and 7 boys, w5th a mean age of 12.1 years old (6-16 years). A total of 21 eyes were operated, of wh5ch 5 for med5al rectus muscle and 16 for lateral rectus muscle. All blocks were conf5rmed by ocular ultrasonography.No OCR was observed. There was no need of add5t5onal op5o5d dur5ng ma5ntenance of anesthes5a. No EA was observed 5n the recovery room. D"scuss"on / Conclus"on: Sub-Tenon’s block 5s a new techn5que, and has been shown to reduce the 5nc5dence of OCR, postoperat5ve nausea/vom5t5ng, and EA 5n a small number of stud5es. It has also been demonstrated to prov5de effect5ve postoperat5ve analges5a (1-4). Accord5ng to the results obta5ned from the present case ser5es, 5nc5s5onless sub-Tenon’s block comb5ned w5th general anesthes5a seemed to be effect5ve 5n decreas5ng the 5nc5dence of OCR and EA.It was also reduced the need of 5ntraoperat5ve add5t5onal op5o5d
