Özet

In this study, mechanical properties and characteristics of expanded perlite based Khorasan mortar (EPKM) was investigated. For this purpose, EPKM specimens were produced with fifteen mix designs using expanded perlite (EP), tile dust (TD) and slaked lime (SL). The tests were conducted on hardened specimens after 28 days of curing to determine the unit weight, ultrasonic pulse velocity, compressive strength, flexural strength and water absorption. In addition, the characteristics of EPKM was investigated by SEM/EDS, XRD, TG/DTA, BET and THB analysis. It was observed that the strength of EPKM decreased as the EP and water ratios increased. The use of EP as aggregate expedited the start of micro pore formation in mortar. This led to a decrease in the strength and unit weight of EPKM, however notable improvements were obtained related to lightweight and insulation properties of EPKM.
