Özet

The People's Houses are among the leading cultural institutions with an active mission in the Republican Era. Assigned with the responsibility of easing the process whereby the people would adopt the Republic and the revolutionary reforms, they were also influential in the attempts of exploring and recording the Turkish culture and the elevation of the cultural level of poeple. EskiGehir People's House, opened on 14th February 1932, became a cultural center in its surroundings when it was still active. It also served many researches that have brought the lights in historic, geographical, folkloric and socio-economic characters of the region. In this article the activities of the People's House of EskiGehir, one of the earliest institutions of its kind, has been described and the attempts aimed at strengthening the social and institutional structure of the early republican era, have been tried to analyzed.
