Özet

This study investigates the shielding performance of glass systems against the characteristic gamma energies of common radioisotopes such as Cs-137, I-131, Na- 22, and Co-60, covering a wide energy range from 0.284 to 2.506 MeV. The base composition was designed as 70x–20ZnO–10Li2O, where x represents SiO2, B2O3, P2O5, TeO2, or GeO2. Theoretical densities of the glass samples were calculated, and key shielding parameters, mass attenuation coefficient (MAC), linear attenuation coefficient (LAC), half-value layer (HVL), mean free path (MFP), and effective atomic number (Zeff) were determined as a function of photon energy. The findings reveal the significant influence of the structural and atomic characteristics of glass formers on radiation shielding efficiency, providing insights for the development of advanced glass-based shielding materials.
