The period until the 42nd day after birth is very important for both mother and newborn health. Lack of care in this period of time, both of which are vulnerable, may increase the risk of disease and death. The purpose of this review, explain the importance of postpartum care, home visits and to explain the care responsibilities of midwives in this period and to make suggestions for solving problems. Home visits, breastfeeding, skin to skin contact, bath time, hygiene education, umbilical cord care, skin care, basic mother and newborn care applications can improve. Home visits can be a good opportunity not only for physical problems but also for evaluating maternal mental health, family conditions and home environment. Same time; It should also include counseling on family planning, nutrition, hygiene and gender-based violence. Do not be judgmental in performing these important tasks. The health and well-being of the family can be enhanced when a supportive role is played and/or care is individualized. Postpartum is a period that should be given importance because of the risks involved and the period when women need care support the most. Unfortunately, it is thought-provoking that it appears as the most neglected period. Despite its effect on maternal and infant mortality rates, it is seen that preventive health services are not taken into account adequately. Therefore; in order to ensure the continuity of postnatal care, health services that will provide regular care services need to be planned and implemented. Increasing midwife employment in primary health care services and implementing midwifery care models to ensure continuity of care will be one of the important steps to improve postpartum care services.
