Abstract

Apple butter is volatile oil which is obtained by evaporation from sage. All volatile oils have in common a hydrocarbon, is monoterpenes. Hydrocarbons can cause aspiration because of low viscosity. Here a case with chemical pneumonia due to use of high dose apple butter by oral route despite recommendation of topical route has been reported. Acute intoxication due to herbal medicines can cause to acute respiratory distress. Therefore, it shouldn't be forgotten that improper use of topical preparations can cause chemical pneumonia.
