Abstract

This work proposes a leaky-wave antenna based on a series-fed patch array with semi-elliptical arms for X-band radar applications. The antenna uses series-fed patch unit-cells with elliptical arms as its leakage element to eliminate the open-stop band (OSB) problem and achieve continuous beam scanning. The antenna operates from 8 to 12 GHz with a beam-scanning range of -67° to 23°. Due to its maximum gain of 15 dBi, efficiency of over 75%, simple design, and ease of manufacture, it can be a practical choice for many wireless communication applications, including radar, remote sensing, and weather monitoring in the X-band.
