Özet

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different root canal sealer activation methods (ultrasonic, rotary instrument system, and manual) and different obturation techniques (single-cone and warm vertical compaction) on the dentinal tubule penetration of a calcium silicate-based sealer (TotalFill BC Sealer HiFlow) in teeth undergoing root canal retreatment.

Material & Method: Seventy-seven extracted single-canal and single-rooted human teeth were used in
the study. The teeth were shaped up to X4 using the ProTaper Next system, and the canals were filled with TotalFill BC Sealer HiFlow using the single-cone technique. Root canal retreatment was performed using the ProTaper Universal Retreatment system, and the canals were reshaped up to X5. The teeth were divided into seven groups based on the activation method (manual, XP-endo Finisher R, passive ultrasonic) and
the obturation technique applied (single-cone and warm vertical compaction). Sections of 1 mm thickness were obtained from the coronal, middle, and apical regions of each tooth. Penetration parameters in these sections were evaluated using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Penetration percentage, penetration area, and maximum penetration depth were calculated. For statistical analysis, the Friedman test was used for intra-group evaluations, and the Kruskal-Wallis test was used for inter-group evaluations.

Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the groups in terms of dentin tubule penetration regarding activation methods and canal filling techniques (p > 0.05). In regional analyses, the penetration area was found to be higher in coronal sections compared to the apical region across all groups.

Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it was observed that different sealer activation methods and obturation techniques did not have a significant effect on the penetration of TotalFill BC Sealer HiFlow into dentinal tubules.
