The aim of the study is to examine the efficiency of activities designed in line with the conditions of a rural settlement for 6th and 7th grade social studies. The efficiency of the activities were determined according to views of teachers and pupils. An action research design was employed for the study. The subjects of the study were 6 social studies teachers and their students. The data collection tools were; semi-structured interview schedules with teachers and students, students’ portfolios and dairies. The data was analyzed by content analysis technique. As a result of the research, it has been found that the activities designed according to rural settlement conditions are advantageous for the individuals in rural settlements. Activities carried out have positive effects on the readiness and motivation of the teachers and students. Additionally, the activities contribute to the purpose, content, education process and evaluation processes of the social studies curriculum. They also have positive effects on the school family association and parental support. It is also found out that the methods and techniques such as field trips- observation, research, and cooperative learning and learning by doing proved to be efficient. Activities designed according to rural settlement conditions are advantageous for individuals living in rural settlements. Teachers working in rural settlements should design and develop activities according to rural settlement conditions.
