Abstract

In this work, three lanthanide complexes with 2,2-dimethylglutarate (22glu) and 3,3-dimethylglutarate (33glu), namely [Sm-2(mu(3)-22glu)(mu(4)-22glu)(mu(3)-OH)(2)(H2O)]center dot H2O (1), [Pr-2(mu(3)-33glu)(mu(3)-33glu)(2)(H2O)(3)]center dot 3H(2)O (2) and [Gd(mu(4)-33glu)(mu(4)-33glu)(2)]center dot 2H(2)O (3), were synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions and structurally characterized by powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric measurements. Lanthanide ions bridged by 2,2- or 3,3-dimethylglutarate ligands in tridentate and tetradentate coordination modes form 2D layer structures for 1-3. Structural analyses revealed that complexes 1 and 2 crystallize in the triclinic system, P (1) over bar space group, while complex 3 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c. The thermogravimetric analysis of 1-3 is discussed in detail. In addition, the phase purities of the bulk samples were identified by powder X-ray diffraction. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
