Özet

This study examines the effectiveness of ChatGPT-4o in intangible cultural heritage (ICH) knowledge transfer by comparing its responses with those of heritage masters specializing in pottery making in Cappadocia. Structured interviews were conducted with ten heritage masters, followed by the same questions posed to ChatGPT-4o. Findings indicate that ChatGPT-4o provides comprehensive and accurate general information about pottery history, materials, and techniques, often supplementing details beyond what heritage masters shared. However, heritage masters demonstrated superior knowledge in localized, nuanced aspects, particularly in the pottery firing process. The study highlights the potential of AI-based tools in preserving and disseminating ICH knowledge, while also recognizing their limitations in capturing experiential, tacit knowledge. The results suggest that while AI applications like ChatGPT-4o can be valuable in ICH education and promotion, they cannot fully replace heritage masters in transferring deeply embedded cultural knowledge.
