The power optimization of a finite - time thermionic energy converter working as a topping power unit has been performed and design characteristics have been described at maximum power conditions. A technologically important example defined as heat exchange by combined radiation and conduction has been considered. The analysis has shown that the maximum power output of the thermionic converter has been sensitive to the temperature and emittance ratios of heat source to heat sink. By considering the output power, τ must be hold around 0.2 and small εR values must be preferred for optimum designs.
