Özet

UHMWPE is a high-performance polymer widely used in demanding applications; however, its low thermal stability and poor load-bearing capacity limit its performance. Although carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforcement improves the bulk properties of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), its influence on machinability remains insufficiently understood. This study systematically investigates the milling machinability of UHMWPE/CNT nanocomposites using a Taguchi L9 experimental design. The effects of CNT ratio, rotational speed, and axial depth of cut on cutting temperature and surface roughness were investigated. The results indicate that CNT ratio is the most influential parameter, significantly increasing both cutting temperature and surface roughness. Rotational speed showed a strong positive correlation with cutting temperature while axial depth of cut had a comparatively minor effect. Chip morphology analysis revealed that CNT addition transforms the cutting mechanism from ductile tearing to brittle fracture, resulting in segmented chips and improved chip evacuation.
