Özet
This study investigates the edge trimming of honeycomb core sandwich structures using conventional end milling. The influence of spindle speed and depth of cut on cutting temperature was systematically investigated through a full-factorial experimental design. Cutting temperatures were monitored in real time under dry machining conditions. The results show that maximum cutting temperature increases with increasing depth of cut due to greater tool/workpiece interaction. As spindle speed increases from 1500 to 3000 rpm, temperatures rise, followed by a slight decrease at 4500 rpm. This behavior is attributed to a transition from tearing-dominated material removal at lower speeds to a more efficient shearing mechanism at higher speeds. The findings provide insight into heat generation during trimming and support the development of optimized machining strategies for improved edge quality and process reliability in honeycomb sandwich structures.
