Özet

In this paper, a short description of the Omerler Underground Coal Mine at Tuncbilek district located at west part of Turkey is given. Then, mechanized longwall equipment and applied mining method are introduced in this coal mine. The shield pressure variations were monitored to understand the interaction between the shield and the roof strata. Hydraulic leg pressure data obtained from full mechanized longwall are evaluated in terms of effects of roof behavior, extracted adjacent panel, mining cycles and idle time periods. As a result of this investigation, commonly, four types of pressure variations were described for different mining cycles. Because coal seam near the adjacent extracted panel has been heavily crushed and weakened by abutment pressure, the shields located close to tailgate zones are operated under very weak roof conditions.
