Cyclosporine A (Cy A) in doses of 2.5, 10, 25 and 50 mg/kg/day were given intraperitoneally (i.p.) to rats for seven days. At the end of our study, no significant change had occurred in creatinine clearance and urine calcium levels in the experiment and control groups. Urine creatinine, sodium, potassium and urea nitrogen levels decreased while serum creatinine increased significantly depending on the dose. Additionally, urinary uric acid and phosphorus increased in the Cy A groups (2.5 and 10 mg/kg/day) according to control and other experimental groups (25 and 50 mg/kg/day). Ultrastructural differences in the kidney proximal tubule epithelial cells were also shown in the experimental groups by electron microscopy.
