Abstract:

ÇETİN M, Mammary diseases encountered in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of Veterinary Faculty of Yüzüncü Yıl University. Yuzuncu Yil University Health Science Institute, MSc Thesis in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Van, 2007. The aim of this study was a general analysis of mammary diseases encountered in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of Veterinary Faculty of Yüzüncü Yıl University. The material was consisted of mammary problems of the animals came during 15 years, from 1992 to 2007. Examining the clinic registers extended over this time period, the number of all cases including mammary problems was established fist.  Later, cases related to udder or teats were determined and grouped according to be seen in the breeds.  Mammary problems were classified as in the mammary lobe or in the teat. Every quarter of the udder in cows was counted as a case. The methods used when the cases were identified were inspection of the udders, teats and milk samples, and palpation of the udders and teats. Furthermore, milk samples were tested by CMT. In 15 years, 3007 cases including the mammary diseases came to the clinic. The count of mammary diseases in these cases was 721 (%23.97). Dispersion of mammary diseases to cows, sheep, goats and dogs were 714 (%99.02), 5 (%0.69), 1 (%0.13) and 1 (%0.13) respectively. Mastitis was the most encountered disease in cows. This was followed by teat obstructions and perforated wounds. Other cases came with small numbers after these three important diseases. Farmers in the region have a very big lack of knowledge about animal breeding, mammary health and milking.
