This research group was established in 2009 and comprises faculty members and students from the Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering. Our primary research areas are machine learning and computer vision. Within the domain of machine learning, we focus on pattern classification—particularly large margin and kernel-based classifiers—clustering, kernel methods, data modeling, statistical techniques, manifold learning, and distance metric learning. In the field of computer vision, our interests encompass visual object recognition, object category localization, face detection, face recognition, and image retrieval. Our overarching objective is to integrate image analysis techniques with machine learning and statistical modeling approaches to develop robust and intelligent systems.
