The first Optics and Photonics Laboratory at Eskişehir Osmangazi University was established in 2019 within the School of Health Services.

In our laboratory, fiber-optic sensors based on the ultra-high-sensitivity Fiber Loop Ring-Down Spectroscopy (FLRDS) technique are developed and applied for the measurement of a wide range of parameters, including biomedical diagnostics, structural health monitoring, chemical species detection, and physical parameters such as pressure, strain, and temperature, as well as various chemical and biological quantities. Fiber-optic sensor and sensor network studies with strong application potential across medicine, engineering, and fundamental sciences are actively conducted.

Our laboratory focuses on the development of Fiber-Optic Sensors (FOSs) utilizing single-mode optical fibers, which are applied in structural health monitoring, biomedical, physical, chemical, and environmental sensing applications. By exploiting the remarkable advantages of the FLRDS technique, these FOSs provide ultra-high sensitivity through fast response time, simple system architecture, low cost, portability, simultaneous interrogation capability, and multi-parameter sensing via sensor networks.

The laboratory infrastructure includes a 1550 nm continuous-wave laser with a TEC driver for FLRDS implementation, a 1550 nm pulsed laser source, a function generator, a dual-channel digital oscilloscope, two photodetectors (one free-space and one fiber-coupled), and a 120 m fiber loop incorporating two identical 99.9:0.1 optical couplers. In addition, the laboratory is equipped with a desktop optical microscope, power supply units, a 3D printing system, a mini laser CNC system, and an experimental setup for thin-film fabrication using electrochemical coating techniques.

Research conducted in our laboratory has resulted in publications in several high-impact journals, presentations at international conferences, and granted patents.

We actively support all forms of scientific collaboration, including bilateral partnerships, joint research activities, projects, patents, and utility models.

We sincerely invite you to visit our laboratory and explore potential collaboration opportunities.
